In the past, Taiwan had two "Presidents Chiang" who ruled the island consecutively for 37 years, along with a "Never-Changing Assembly." Before the democratic movement, predecessors experienced numerous protests and constitutional amendments, eventually establishing the system of direct presidential elections.
